2003 was when I got serious with car audio, and started getting into complex
fabrication and custom interior design. A complete rebuild was done
for almost 6 months for a debut at Spring Break. Further equipment and
design changes were done througout the year, resulting in the system
you see below.
 |
Under the hood, all main cables were upgraded. The stock alternator
supplies current to the Optima Yellow Top battery through 4
gauge cable. The battery grounds to the engine block with 8
gauge cable, and to the chassis with 1/0 cable. The vehicle
power distribution is fed by 8 gauge, while the audio system
is fed with 1/0 cable.

 |
In the passenger compartment, you can see the primary source
unit, an Alpine 7949, housed in a modified ISO mount trim ring.
A Blaupunkt 7" wide screen monitor displays the rear view
from a camera in the back, and switches to the Alpine DVA-5205
dvd player when parked. The front stage consists of Focal Audiom
TLR tweeters in A-pillar mounts, Focal Audiom 6W's in kick panels,
and JL 8" IB4 midbasses behind modified door panels. The
top and bottom of the dash are covered in sound absorbing material
to minimize reflections and resonance.
|
 |
Once past the front seats, all similarities
to a stock interior end. The back seats were removed, as well
as all stock carpet and plastic panels. A flip up lid covers a
storage cubby behind the seats. In the lid are the processors
for the system: An AudioControl DQT equalizer, and a DXS 3 way
crossover. |
 |
In the cubby, you can see the dvd player,
a cd changer, as well as the 5 Farad Alumapro CAP and the fuse
holders for the main amplifiers. |
 |
The rear hatch is home to 4 JBL amplifiers.
3 JBL PX600.2 amps power the 6 front stage speakers, while a JBL
BPX1100.1 powers the JBL GTI 12" sub in the corner. TTops
can still be stored by simply removing the carpeted panel that
covers the rack in the bottom of the well. |
